How to save a ChatGPT conversation as a PDF

Why formatting breaks

When you copy a ChatGPT answer into Word or print the chat page, headings often appear as ##, tables collapse into pipe characters, and bold text shows asterisks. The model answered in Markdown; the chat UI did not turn it into a document.

Method 1 — Print the chat (quick, messy)

Use the browser Print dialog on the ChatGPT page. Fast, but sidebars, buttons and broken tables often remain. Fine for a short personal note; poor for sharing.

Method 2 — Copy as Markdown, then export

Copy the answer, paste into ChatGPT to Word or the viewer, preview, then Export PDF or Word. Tables and headings become real structure.

Method 3 — Official export (whole account)

ChatGPT account settings offer a data export. That is for archives, not a single clean PDF. Prefer Method 2 for one conversation.

Copy the message text, open MarkdownBook in Safari, paste, Preview, then Share → Print → Save as PDF. Landscape helps wide tables.
